Is it okay to feed nothing but dry food to my pet?
A dry formula such as PURINA ONE Total Nutrition is a complete and balanced diet for life. Your dog or cat will have 100% of their nutritional needs met by eating their daily portion of PURINA ONE, so they won’t require any supplements. As a bonus, the dry food will also help control dental tartar.
The PURINA ONE serving suggestions are less than I fed my pet currently. Why is this?
PURINA ONE is dense in nutrients. There are more digestible calories per cup than with average foods, which means you can feed your pet a smaller amount.
Does it matter if I give cat food to my dog?
Yes, it does matter. While dogs eat almost anything given the chance, they’ll become overweight on a diet formulated for cats. That’s because cats and dogs have different nutritional needs based on their evolution and metabolism. Make sure you keep any cat food bowls out of reach of your dog.
What if I give dog food to my cat?
Don’t ever substitute dog food for cat food. Cats are, by nature, carnivores, which means they require higher levels of protein in their diet. Cats also have a unique requirement for an amino acid called taurine, which isn’t found in dog (or human) food. In fact, a lack of taurine could result in impaired vision.
How bad is it to give human food to my dog or cat?
There are several issues here. If you feed table scraps, it’s impossible to judge the correct calorific and nutritional content, so you’ll probably end up under - or overfeeding. If you feed table food as well as cat or dog food, your pet may become overweight. Or, they may not eat enough of the specially formulated pet food to meet their nutritional needs.

I have three cats, but only one is overweight. Can all three eat a weight control formula?
PURINA ONE Healthy Weight Management is a completely balanced diet providing all the daily nutrition your cat or dog needs. An overweight pet usually does best when fed this. Other animals in the home can eat it too, but monitor them carefully to make sure they don’t lose weight. If they do, simply switch them to a different formula. The same principle applies to dogs who share the same dog food.
Why do older pets need a special diet?
Like people, older pets slow down, sleep more, develop stiff muscles and creaky joints, and may have weight issues. To keep your pet looking and feeling younger for longer, feed them a Senior formulation once they turn 7. PURINA ONE has a special formulation that delivers more calories from protein, yet is lower in fat, to help them maintain their lean body mass and immune system. It also contains glucosamine for healthy joints and mobility, as well as other essential nutrients.
How many times a day should I feed my pet?
We recommend that cats and dogs be fed twice daily (morning and evening). Some cats (and on rare occasions some dogs) will regulate the amount they eat and can be fed their total daily allotment free choice. In other situations a cat and most dogs may overeat if given all their food at once. Don’t forget to provide your pet with a good quality commercial diet appropriate for their lifestage and plenty of fresh clean water. In homes with more than one pet, be sure to have a food bowl for each pet.
What are the differences between dry and canned pet foods?
Dry foods are easier to serve as they remain fresh and appetising for much longer. They offer a variety of flavours and help keep your pet’s teeth clean because the chewing action acts as a cleaning abrasive.

What is the difference between PURINA ONE Dog food and Purina Dog CHOW?
CHOW is manufactured by Purina PetCare along with other well known brands such as PURINA ONE, TUX, FRISKIES and Fancy Feast.
Dog CHOW fills the very important role between super-premium food (ie PURINA ONE) and mainstream brands such as TUX.
Purina Dog CHOW is a premium complete and balanced dry dog food. We make Purina Dog CHOW in 2 variants, Puppy & Adult Dog.
At Purina PetCare all our dry pet foods are nutritionally complete, which means that is all your dog requires to eat to maintain their health. Brands such as PURINA ONE are designed to go a step further to enhance the health of pets by providing extra nutrients eg Glucosamine for joint health, Omega fatty acids for skin etc, and provide Special Care formulas (Weight Management, Large Breed, Sensitive Systems), in addition to the life stage offerings.

What is the difference between PURINA ONE Cat food and Purina Cat CHOW?
Both are excellent diets. The major differences are in the ingredients, as well as the sources of protein (chicken, lamb, turkey, beef) and the different carbohydrates (rice, barley, corn) that are used.
PURINA ONE is our super premium brand with the highest level of ingredients - we use real meat (eg Chicken) as the first ingredient, and have high levels of protein for your pets needs, specific formulas for Life stage (Kitten, Adult, Senior), as well as special care requirements eg Healthy Weight Management.
PURINA ONE is a nutrient dense product that means your pet requires smaller amounts to keep it contented and nourished eg, an average cat should be fed 1/2-2/3 cup per day.
Purina CHOW is also an excellent diet, and its source of protein is different (poultry by product meal). Purina CHOW is available in Kitten, Adult and Vitality (Senior). You will need to feed your cat more CHOW (than ONE) as it is less nutrient dense eg an average cat should be fed 1/2-3/4 cup per day.
PURINA ONE and Purina CHOW are complete and balanced pet foods. Both products are superior in formulation than your average dry cat food.
