1 What do I do if my cat won't take care of one of its kittens? A newborn kitten needs its mother to survive. If the mother will not tend to the kitten it needs to be bottle fed kitten milk replacer at least 4-5 times daily. Very young kittens will also need help urinating and defecating the first two weeks of life. Once the kitten has opened its eyes and is about 3-4 weeks old it can be introduced to kitten food that has been moistened with water to make it easier to eat.
