1 What are safe kinds of flowers that I could enjoy indoors as well as my cats? Currently, I grow cat grass for them. Many types of house and garden plants are toxic to cats. For example, ivy, poinsettia, and philodendrons are all toxic, just to mention a few. Be sure to check with your veterinarian or the plant nursery before bringing any plant into the house. Although cats are carnivores, they will sometimes chew the leaves of houseplants. Sprouting grass seedlings in a pot or buying already sprouted grass from the pet store could provide an alternative to your houseplants. Also, move your houseplants from the floor or windowsill to a place your cats can't reach. Ask your veterinarian about special cat repellents that can be sprayed on the plants leaves. This won't hurt the plant or the cat but will taste terrible.

2 Is a cat ever too young for a collar, and how do I tell if it's too tight or too loose? There's not a specific age at which your cat should start wearing a collar but younger is probably better. I would suggest that a collar with an identification tag be one of your first purchases for your new friend. Cat collars are made of lightweight material and should have enough "give" to allow the cat to free himself should the collar ever catch on something. It should be snug but not tight - you should be able to slide your little finger between his neck and the collar. And don't forget the ID tag. The tag should list your address and several phone numbers, so that if someone finds him they can locate you or a friend any time, day or night.
