1 I have a kitten whose mother was killed and have been feeding it formula from my vet's office. Do I need to help it go to the bathroom as well? If so what do I need to do? The kitten is about a week old.

2 Our 6-month-old kitten lost a tooth while tugging on a sock. Do kittens lose their baby teeth? If so, at what age does this happen?

1 I have a kitten whose mother was killed and have been feeding it formula from my vet's office. Do I need to help it go to the bathroom as well? If so what do I need to do? The kitten is about a week old. It will be necessary to stimulate an orphaned newborn kitten to urinate and defecate - a job that would normally be performed by its mother. To do this, massage the genital area with a warm moist cloth or cotton ball after every feeding. Also, wipe the kitten's mouth after each feeding.

2 Our 6-month-old kitten lost a tooth while tugging on a sock. Do kittens lose their baby teeth? If so, at what age does this happen? Kittens have 26 deciduous (baby) teeth. They are the incisors, canines, and premolars. The incisors first appear at 2 to 3 weeks of age followed by the canines at 3 to 4 weeks of age and the premolars around 5 to 6 weeks of age. The age when teeth start to appear can be influenced by breed, environment, nutrition, and season of the year. Kittens will start to lose their baby teeth when the permanent teeth begin to erupt, usually beginning around 3 to 4 months of age. By 7 months off age the cat's adult teeth are fully developed.
