Why does my 2 year old Basset eat grass?
While we may never know for certain why dogs eat grass, there are several possible explanations. First, wild dogs hunt animals that are herbivores, animals that eat grasses and vegetation. When they eat their prey they usually eat the entire animal including stomach contents. Therefore, it maybe that some plant material is a desirable part of the diet of carnivores. Second, there is some speculation that grass acts as a means to help clean out the stomach and intestinal tract. If your dog is eating grass and showing signs up intestinal upset, please contact your veterinarian.

Generally speaking eating grass is not harmful. It seems that some dogs just like the taste. On the other hand, some dogs seem to eat grass when they have an intestinal irritation. If the grass eating is accompanied by vomiting and/or diarrhea, a veterinary visit is in order.
