My 6 1/2 year old Golden just finished 6 weeks of chemotherapy induction for lymphoma. The recommendation is now bi-weekly chemo indefinitely.
Cost is rapidly becoming an issue. Is there "magic" to the biweekly, or would monthly chemo be an option?

I certainly sympathize with the costs on ongoing medical care for your pet. However in many cases, lymphoma can respond quite well to chemotherapy. If untreated, dogs with lymphoma tend to only live 4-6 weeks. With chemotherapy 75% to 90% of dogs go into remission and survival ranges from 6-12 months. With combination chemotherapy protocols, 25% of patients survive beyond two years. Sadly cures are still uncommon. The longest survival times and remissions have been with combination protocols that are given every two weeks for at least 25 weeks. If remission is sustained, then treatment is given every 3 weeks through 51 weeks and if still in remission then monthly until 156 weeks have passed. It sounds like your veterinarian is using a good protocol for your pet, but please share your concerns with her.
