1 I live in Florida and my dog generally appears hot. Any limits on exercise or tips on acclimating her to the climate? She is 5 years old, Lab mix, loves Purina ONE™, and weighs 40 lbs. She also springs up on all fours. Any idea what breed that is?? Thanks

She also springs up on all fours. Any idea what breed that is?? Thanks When living in a warm climate it is important to be careful not to let your dog become overheated. Dogs do not have sweat glands except on the pads of their feet. Therefore, they will cool themselves by panting and when it is very hot and/or they are exercising can become overheated. I would refrain from exercising your dog during the hottest parts of the day, always provide clean cool water and plenty of shade. Since your dog is a Labrador mix, she might like water. If she appears overheated a cool bath can help. However, hypothermia can be serious, so if she seems extremely hot, contact your veterinarian. As for the jumping, many dogs do that including Labradors as they spring into the water.
